Born to a humble agricultural family in Adalaj, Himanshu’s concern for societal issues and education is innate. His father, Late Vitthalbhai Patel, was also an advocate, and this was a major factor that influenced Himanshu towards pursuing a career in law himself.

Himanshu draws great inspiration from the work his father has done towards empowering farmers. His father fought for farmer rights, by making sure that they got justified compensation from the government, in case their land was acquired for public usage.

Since a tender age Himanshu has also been taking up causes that support the development and growth of farmers and their families. Owing to his bent towards societal issues, his wife Alpa Patel is also highly involved in social endeavours on various scales.

Just like Himanshu drew inspiration from his father, his children too, look up to him. His daughter Dr. Neeva Patel is pursuing her Masters in the US, and his son Shiv Patel is pursuing his Masters in Engineering from Chennai.
